What is EQUINE-ASSISTED LEARNING (EAL)?
At Changing Lives Through Horses Foundation, we believe horses have an extraordinary ability to help people grow, heal, and discover their strengths. Through Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL), participants engage in meaningful, hands-on experiences with horses in a safe, supportive environment.
Equine-Assisted Learning is an experiential approach that promotes personal development, emotional well-being, and life skills through guided interactions with horses. Unlike traditional horseback riding lessons, EAL focuses on the relationship between the participant and the horse. Most activities take place on the ground and are designed to encourage communication, problem-solving, confidence, trust, and self-awareness.
Horses are highly intuitive animals that naturally respond to human emotions, energy, and body language. Because they live in the present moment, they provide honest, immediate feedback without judgment. This unique interaction allows participants to better understand their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviours while developing healthier ways to respond to challenges.
Throughout each session, our trained facilitators guide participants in reflecting on their experiences with the horses and connecting those lessons to everyday life. The skills developed through Equine-Assisted Learning can improve relationships, emotional regulation, resilience, leadership, communication, and overall well-being.
